Lessons are available and designed for children 6 months-6+ years old. These safe and effective lessons are customized to your child and taught one on one. Group lessons are not offered. Your child’s lesson experience will be unique and to provide the safest possible lesson, the instructor’s attention will be focused on your child only throughout the lesson period.
Lessons are daily (Monday-Thursday), which is imperative for skill progression and retention. There is not a set number of lessons. Students are in lessons until they master the skills, and this takes approximately 6-8 weeks, depending on the child's developmental stage and aquatic history.
Alyssa will provide instruction to your child that emphasizes developmentally appropriate skills training, health issues and considerations, ongoing program evaluations, and parent education.
After the initial lesson experience is complete, it is recommended that every child participate in Refresher lessons at a minimum 6 months to a year. This will enable your child to learn how to adjust their swimming and floating skills to their continually growing and developing bodies.
Rollback to Float: Infants to Cruisers Babies at least 6 months AND sitting and rolling side to side independently through toddlers who are beginning to cruise will learn the safety skills of getting to their back from various positions, breathing, resting, and maintaining an independent float until help arrives.
Swim-Float-Stay: New Walkers Approximately 16 months - 30 months Toddlers who are solid walkers will learn the skills needed to turn back toward and attain an edge. They will also learn to independently swim a short distance until they need air, roll to their back to breathe, rest, and float until help arrives.
Swim-Float-Swim: Solid Walkers and Up Approximately 31 months - 6+ years - Older swimmers will learn to swim a short distance until they need air, roll to their back to breathe, rest, and float, then flip over to continue swimming. They can repeat this sequence until they reach an edge or footing in open water. These physical skills will be combined with verbal discussion and education about water safety and making good choices in and around the water.
REFRESHER LESSONS: Refresher lessons are extremely important in continuing and maintaining your child's survival swim skill development. Children grow and develop rapidly from infants to toddlers and young children. This development process represents improved strength, coordination, and a more finely tuned cognitive ability. In accordance with this growth, children enrolled in ISR return periodically to participate in Refresher Lessons.
Statistics indicate that most children who fall into water are fully clothed. Therefore, once the children are fully skilled they will practice their survival swim skills fully clothed.
Give your child the competence, confidence and skills of aquatic safety and Survival Swim skills.
